Are there any good wedding cake people in this town?

I’ve sampled over 50 cakes from just as many bakeries, and they’re all less than perfect. While I may sound like I’m being difficult, I honestly don’t think a perfect cake is a lot to ask for. Bakers have been making wedding cakes since medieval times so you’d think they might have perfected the science behind them by now. I guess not. Is it so hard to find someone who will make me a six tier Andorran Lace cake with royal icing trim and alternating layers of clementine, raspberry, and opera cream. It’s not that tough!

Daniel’s mother has agreed to hand sew my bridesmaids’ dress. Ordinarily she wouldn’t do this because she has enough on her plate (our kitchen renovation, our wedding invitations, and some of her own work) but I explained how important it was to me to have her make these dresses for me. After a few weeks of explaining, she finally realized that it was the right thing to do in order for me to have my dream wedding.

Daniel has decided he wants his friends from college to be his groomsmen. This would be OK if we were having an outdoor wedding with a reception in a tent. And a keg. But we’re not. This is going to be the kind of wedding people will talk about for years after. It’s an indoor wedding. We need the right kind of people standing up there. I think I’ll tell him it’s OK to have one of these friends, but not all of them. We have better friends for this sort of thing. Daniel needs to realize this is our wedding and not his.

The Reception Hall

After weeks of hard work on my part, I’ve finally managed to secure the east wing of the Griffin-McGuire Museum for our reception. They don’t rent the space out to just anyone. I had to secure several letters of recommendation from our employers, my congressman, Daniel’s father, and one of my professors from Columbia who is also a judge. Needless to say, this will be an unforgettable celebration of Daniel’s love for me.
